“Don’ts” when creating a business card

We have talked in a previous post about business cards, their importance and why they are a great way of promoting your company name. We also gave you few tips on how to create a professional business card. What we wish to do now is to tell you about the common mistakes made when creating a business card that you should avoid doing yourselves.

Not too much
One common mistake is crowding the business card with too much information. By having more free space on your business card you help the vital info to stand out. The idea is that your clients or potential clients should be able to find easily your company name, your phone, your own name, and not need a magnifying glass to be able to read them.

Not too little
While it’s not OK to crowd your business card, you must make sure that it has, though, all the information that your clients need, such asĀ  your name, your title, business name, business phone, fax, email address. Also, you may add business hours and other specific info vital to your business.

Not too thick
Business cards are usually kept in a wallet. If your business card is too thick and won’t fit into a wallet the person you handed it out to might get annoyed and throw it out.

Not too thin
If the business card is too thin it will look unprofessional, cheap and these features may translate into the mind of your client as features of your company. Use quality paper when creating a business card.

Not too extravagant
For the majority of the businesses, a card full with colors, graphics and all sorts of elements is inappropriate. Having this kind of card will make your clients think of you and your company name with less regards and certainly won’t take you seriously.

Not too plain
The business card must stand pot in a subtle and professional manner. A plain one will not evoke emotion or interest towards your company name. A logo, few lines or such graphic elements are welcomed.

As we can see, moderation is the word when creating a great business card!
